I specialize in Atmospheric Physics. I teach all physics subjects up to (and including) highschool (12th grade) physics. Also, I teach Mechanics and Electrodynamics in University level physics.
I like to give real life examples, sometimes even do little demonstrations to help them visualize these consepts.
The reason they struggle is typically because they lack some information from previous topics, maybe previous years. And my job is to identify what exactly they don't know, and fill that gap. The rest comes easier.
I ask them about the curriculum. If they have a textbook they follow, I check that textbook. Sometimes I even get a copy myself, and decide what to teach accordingly.
I try to identify what they respond to. Some students are really good at understaning graphs, some are good at understanding the actual physical processes. I shape my lectures according to the student.
For example, If we are talking about gravitational attraction, I talk about why the moon does not fall to the Earth, and how mankind landed on the moon using these principles. I give interesting examples to the seemingly uninteresting subjects, which sometimes sparks interest right away.
