Questions for You

Q: What teaching methods do you use to help students learn Math concepts and solve problems?

I write all lessons myself on an online note-taking platform, using video, written examples and imagery to help students to gain a better understanding of topics discussed. I also believe in a huge emphasis on learning and understanding the basics, as these form the foundation of all other knowledge. I push students to ask questions and always ensure that things are understood, not just memorised.

Q: Do you have experience with online teaching platforms or virtual tutoring, and what is your preferred method of communication with students?

I have over two years of experience tutoring students both online and face-to-face, gaining valuable insight on how best to communicate certain topics. All my notes are made accessible by students online. This means I am completely comfortable teaching both online and face-to-face!

Q: What Math topics or concepts are you particularly skilled in teaching, and how do you keep up to date with changes in the curriculum?

Given that I did high-level Maths and have taught all levels of maths, I am skilled at teaching all aspects of the topic. However, I find that I am particularly good at conveying things like algebra and calculus, which are topics that many students find difficult to understand. I keep up with changes in the curriculum by accessing the department of education website, as well as communication with my students.

Q: How do you communicate with parents about their child's progress and any challenges they may be facing in learning Math?

When parents request a synopsis, I make sure to send a detailed description of any weak spots, and in my notes will place emphasis on these areas, writing practise questions and warmups for the next lesson to ensure that any difficulties are overcome.

Q: Do you provide any additional resources or materials to supplement your lessons, such as practice exercises or online tutorials?

I provide all students with written notes for all lessons, which can be accessed online and outside of lessons. These notes include detailed descriptions of topics, video lessons, fully worked examples and practise questions.

Q: What is your approach to homework assignments, and how do you ensure students understand the concepts covered in class?

I always encourage students to ask questions whenever they feel they don't fully understand a topic being discussed. Further, I consistently ensure that topics are understood by assigning more challenging questions amongst standard ones. I keep track of things the student may struggle with, and encourage them to practise using the notes I write at home. At the beginning of the next lesson, I often test their understanding using warmup questions.

Q: What steps do you take to ensure that your teaching approach is compatible with the student's learning style?

I include learning aids that accomodate all learning styles. I also keep in communication with the student to understand how to best convey information to them personally, allowing me to adapt my lessons and the notes they are supplied with.

Q: Do you have experience working with students with learning disabilities or special needs, and how do you adapt your teaching methods to accommodate their needs?

I rely on verbal communication from the student or their caregiver to best gauge how I should approach teaching students with special needs or who have learning disabilities, as I know that many are more knowledgable than me on their child's specific needs and learning styles. I always make sure to be kind and understanding whilst teaching, and can adapt the speed and content of my lessons to suit the child's needs.
